What
do I need to do to set up hosting with YourWebHQ?
1. Register your
domain name (YourWebHQ offers domain name registration services).
2. Register for hosting service.
3. Change the DNS for the domain name to the following: primary server
name = ns1.thexspot.com; primary server address = 205.237.202.208;
secondary server name = ns2.thexspot.com; secondary server address =
205.237.202.209.
Once your DNS
information has been changed, it will typically take 24-72 hours for the
hosting service to be established. Transferred domains may take longer to
propagate through the Internet. Sometimes you will need to wait for your
current ISP to clear their DNS server cache for your domain(s) as well as
the original host of the domain.
How do I
change the DNS for my domain name?
If you registered
your domain name via YourWebHQ.com, to change the DNS information, go to
Domain Name Registration and click on Domain Manager. You will need to
enter in your "user name" and "password". Next, go to
"Change DNS/Hosting Info". Click on the box to the left of the
domain name that you need to have hosted and click on
"continue". Finally, enter in the primary and secondary host
information: primary server name = ns1.thexspot.com; primary server
address = 205.237.202.208; secondary server name = ns2.thexspot.com
secondary server address = 205.237.202.209.
If you used a
different registrar to register your domain name, you will need to access
your account with that registrar and change the DNS using their
procedures.
How long
will it take for the hosting service to be established?
Once your DNS
information has been changed, it will typically take 24-72 hours for the
hosting service to be established. Transferred domains may take longer to
propagate through the Internet. Sometimes you will need to wait for your
current ISP to clear their DNS server cache for your domain(s) as well as
the original host of the domain.
What is a
virtual domain?
A virtual domain
allows you to have your own domain name (http://www.yourname.com or
http://yourname.com) as well as your own email addresses, e.g., you@yourdomain.com,
etc.
What if I
try the hosting service and am dissatisfied for some reason?
If you are not
satisfied with the service, we would appreciate the opportunity to attempt
to resolve the problem. However, if this cannot be done to your
satisfaction you may cancel your service. There will be no refund after
the 30-day trial period (begins when hosting is setup, not when the
website is published unless you have made other arrangements with us). Be
sure to download your website/files to your hard drive before changing the
DNS information to that of your new hosting company or your website might
not be recoverable. Refer to “How do I change the DNS for my domain
name” above).

What can
I expect in terms of technical assistance from YourWebHQ?
If you experience
technical difficulties with the hosting service at any time, please
contact us with your question, concern or comment either by using the form
at the top of this FAQ page or, if the server is down, send an E-mail to
tendlish@bright.net. Most set-up questions can be answered quickly by
YourWebHQ staff but some questions may require outside assistance and may
therefore take longer to answer. We strive to respond to customer
inquiries within 24 hours.
How will
I know when the hosting service is ready and I can upload files and
publish my webpage?
Typically,
hosting is ready 48 hours after you update the DNS to that of this server.
Sometimes, it is ready sooner. You can "ping" your domain
to see if it resolves to the new server (205.237.202.208).
I have a
band. Can I upload our original music (MP3) to the website if we use this
hosting service?
As long as we can
verify somehow that the songs are original songs and that it is really the
band (basically anyway we can know that it is not copyrighted work), we
allow MP3s.
We strongly
recommend that you register all material with the Register of Copyrights
in Washington D.C., and your ownership of the copyright is displayed on
your website by including a ©, John Doe, 2002. To order the necessary
forms call (202) 707-3000, or write to: Copyright Office, Library of
Congress, Washington D.C. 20559. Request form PA to copyright the music
and lyrics, or form SR to copyright the song and the actual recording or
sounds. If you have questions concerning copyright, please call (202)
707-5959. You may also download or print the forms here: Copyright Forms.
Does it
cost extra to transfer my domain from another hosting company to
YourWebHQ’s hosting service?
No, there are no
extra charges for you to transfer a domain to our hosting service. This is
not the case for transferring domain name registrars… if you would like
to transfer your domain name to YourWebHQ’s domain name registration
service, there will be a $12.50 fee (includes 1 year of hosting extension
from your expiration date).
Can I
host a sub-domain (name.yourdomain.com) at YourWebHQ?
Yes, if you are
hosting your primary domain with us, you may setup sub-domains for your
account at no extra charge.
What do I
need to name the default page for my site?
Any of the
following will be recognized as the default page for any directory within
your site including the top level directory: index.html, index.htm,
index.shtml, index.php, index.php4, index.php3, index.cgi.
NOTE 1: Linux is
case-sensitive, so Index.html is not the same thing as index.html. If you
need to change a site or directory's default page, you can do so using an
.htaccess file.
NOTE 2: When the
hosting is initially setup, the Plesk message letting you know that the
hosting is ready is an index.html file. You will need to replace it with
your homepage.
What is
my site's public directory?
You'll need to
upload your files to the public directory. Please refer to our FTP FAQ for
more info.
How do I
transfer files to and from the server?
You'll need to
use an FTP application to do this or software, such as FrontPage 2000.
